Chanel Miller is an American writer and artist, born in 1992 in Palo Alto, California. She studied literature at the University of California, Santa Barbara. After she was sexually assaulted on the Stanford University campus in January 2015, court documents and media reports referred to her as Emily Doe. Her victim impact statement was later published online by BuzzFeed and reached a very large readership. In September 2019 she chose to share her name and published Know My Name, her first book. The memoir was a New York Times bestseller and won the 2019 National Book Critics Circle Award for Autobiographies.
