Blinkist suits you if you read in English, German, Spanish or Portuguese and want short nonfiction summaries that you can either read or hear. It is a harder case if you pay in Thai baht, want to listen in Thai, or already know that you will only ever listen. This Blinkist review covers what Blinkist costs in the US and in Thailand, what you get for free, where it is strong and where it falls short, and how it compares with BookBits, the audio summary app we make.
Every Blinkist price and feature on this page was read on Blinkist’s own pricing page, its help center and its App Store listings on October 6, 2026. Prices move, so check the linked page before you pay.
What Blinkist is and how it works
Blinkist publishes summaries of nonfiction books and podcasts. Each one can be read as text or played as audio, and its pricing page sums up the promise as “Read & listen in 15 min”. Blinkist says it has 9,000+ book and podcast summaries. You can use it in the mobile apps, on the web and in CarPlay.
Blinkist has three tiers:
- Basic is free and gives you one hand-picked title a day. Blinkist chooses the title.
- Premium opens the full library. It includes audio downloads for offline listening in the mobile apps and, according to the pricing page’s questions section, a second Premium account that you can share with one person.
- Pro adds Blinkist AI, which summarizes videos, podcasts, documents and articles from a pasted link and lets you upload your own PDFs (pricing page).
How much Blinkist costs in the US and Thailand
Blinkist’s website sells only 12-month plans. A coupon is applied automatically to the first year, and the pricing page explains that the discounted price is an introductory offer: after the first year, the list price is billed every 12 months. If you want to pay month by month, you have to buy through an app store.
| Plan | US website | Thailand website | App Store |
|---|---|---|---|
| Premium, 12 months | USD 99.99 list; USD 79.99 first year | THB 2,899.99 list; THB 2,319.99 first year | Items labeled one year: THB 1,800 to THB 2,800 in Thailand; USD 79.99, 99.99 and 119.99 in the US |
| Premium, one month | Not sold on the website | Not sold on the website | Items labeled one month: THB 319 and THB 419 in Thailand; USD 12.99 and USD 15.99 in the US |
| Pro, 12 months | USD 174.99 list; USD 139.99 first year | THB 4,049.99 list; THB 3,239.99 first year | Item named Pro: THB 4,050 in Thailand, USD 139.99 in the US (billing period not in the name) |
Apple lists several price points for the same plan and does not say which ones are introductory offers, so the App Store column shows what the store listed on the day we checked. One more Thai item, named only “Premium”, costs THB 499 with no billing period in its name; we leave it out of the monthly row rather than guess.
In practice, a reader in Thailand who buys Premium on the website pays THB 2,319.99 for the first year and THB 2,899.99 at each renewal. In the US the same step is USD 79.99, then USD 99.99.
Premium or Pro: which Blinkist plan?
For most readers, Premium is the plan to compare. It gives you the whole library, offline audio in the mobile apps and the second account. Pro costs noticeably more: on the Thai website, THB 4,049.99 a year at list price against THB 2,899.99 for Premium, and THB 3,239.99 against THB 2,319.99 in the first year. In the US the gap is USD 174.99 against USD 99.99 at list price.
What the extra money buys is Blinkist AI. If you regularly want long articles, videos, podcasts or your own PDFs condensed, and you would otherwise pay for a separate tool to do it, Pro can make sense. If you came to Blinkist for book summaries, Premium covers that.
Can you use Blinkist for free?
Yes, within limits. The Basic plan gives you one title a day, picked by Blinkist rather than by you, so it is not a way to read a specific book you have in mind.
For Premium, Blinkist’s help center says that “in some cases” it offers a 7-day free trial with the yearly plan, and that a trial can be used only once. You may see one at checkout, or you may not.

What Blinkist does well
- Read or listen. Summaries work as text and as audio, so you can read at your desk and pick up the audio on the way home.
- Books and podcasts. Blinkist covers podcast episodes as well as nonfiction books.
- Four languages. Its help center lists English, German, Spanish and Portuguese.
- Offline audio. Paid subscribers can download audio in the mobile apps.
- Room for two. Premium includes a second Premium account for someone you choose.
- An AI tool on Pro. Useful if you also want articles, videos and your own PDFs condensed in the same app.
- Many screens. Mobile, web and CarPlay are all supported.
Where Blinkist falls short for readers in Southeast Asia
- No Thai. None of Blinkist’s four languages is Thai, or any other Southeast Asian language.
- The first-year price is not the renewal price. In Thailand, Premium moves from THB 2,319.99 to THB 2,899.99 after the first year; in the US, from USD 79.99 to USD 99.99.
- No monthly plan on the website. Monthly billing means an App Store purchase, where the Thai items labeled one month cost THB 319 or THB 419.
- The free plan picks for you. Basic is a daily sample chosen by Blinkist, not access to the book you came for.
- Depth. A 15-minute summary gives you the main ideas, not the full argument, the stories and the evidence. That is true of every summary app, ours included. If you want to study one book closely, our Shortform vs Blinkist comparison looks at the deeper option.
Is Blinkist worth it?
This is our editorial view, by situation. It is not a ranking.
| If you | Our view |
|---|---|
| Read in English, German, Spanish or Portuguese and like switching between text and audio | Blinkist is worth it if the yearly price fits your budget |
| Want podcast summaries next to books | Blinkist covers both |
| Want two people on one plan | Blinkist Premium and BookBits both include a second account; compare the yearly price in baht |
| Want to study one book in depth, with exercises | Look at Shortform (Shortform vs Blinkist) |
| Want streaks, quizzes and more languages | Look at Headway (Headway vs Blinkist) |
| Mostly listen, want Thai, and pay in baht | Look at BookBits (below) |
Blinkist vs BookBits: a cheaper alternative in Thailand
BookBits is our own product, so weigh this section with that in mind. Every BookBits fact below comes from our Pricing page; every Blinkist fact is linked to the page we read it on.
| Blinkist Premium | BookBits Unlimited | |
|---|---|---|
| Yearly price in Thailand | THB 2,899.99 list; THB 2,319.99 first year (website) | THB 990 |
| Monthly price in Thailand | THB 319 or THB 419 (App Store items labeled one month); not sold on the website | THB 99 |
| Price in the US | USD 99.99 a year list; USD 79.99 first year (website) | Priced in Thai baht |
| Free trial | 7 days with the yearly plan “in some cases”, once | 7 days on monthly or yearly; card required |
| Free use | Basic: one hand-picked title a day | Free previews on the website, no account |
| Format | Book and podcast summaries, read or listen in about 15 minutes | Audio summaries of nonfiction books, about 15 minutes; full listening in the iOS or Android app |
| Catalog, as each company states it | Blinkist says 9,000+ book and podcast summaries | 5,000+ titles |
| Languages | English, German, Spanish, Portuguese | English and Thai |
| Accounts | Second Premium account included | Two accounts, each with its own library |
| Finding what to read | Pro adds Blinkist AI | Goals and ordered reading paths on the website |
Both plans cover two people, so the comparison holds per person as well. In Thailand, BookBits Unlimited costs THB 990 a year: less than half of Blinkist Premium’s first-year website price (THB 2,319.99) and about a third of its renewal price (THB 2,899.99). Month to month, THB 99 compares with THB 319 or THB 419 for Blinkist’s monthly App Store items. BookBits is priced only in Thai baht, so we make no price comparison for readers who pay in US dollars.
Blinkist is the better pick if you want podcast summaries, read in German, Spanish or Portuguese, or want an AI tool for your own documents.
BookBits fits if you mostly listen. Each summary covers a nonfiction book in about 15 minutes, in English and Thai, and full listening is in the BookBits app for iOS and Android. We use an AI-augmented process to write each summary in our own words, and AI voices read them aloud. On the website you can start from a goal such as Learn Faster or Understand the World, follow an ordered reading path like The Curious Mind’s Grand Tour, and hear free previews without an account. Three of those previews are on the Pricing page: Atlas of the Heart (full summary 20 min 44 sec), Deliberate Calm (16 min 31 sec) and Zero to One (19 min 0 sec). Our book summary app page shows what a BookBits summary contains.

Quick answers
How much does Blinkist cost?
In the US, Premium is USD 99.99 a year at list price, or USD 79.99 for the first year with the coupon Blinkist applies on its website. Viewed from Thailand, the website shows THB 2,899.99 a year, or THB 2,319.99 for the first year. Monthly plans are App Store purchases only.
Can I use Blinkist for free?
The free Basic plan gives you one title a day, chosen by Blinkist. Blinkist says it offers a 7-day trial of the yearly plan “in some cases”, once per person.
What are the pros and cons of Blinkist?
Pros: text and audio, podcasts as well as books, four languages, a second account on Premium and offline audio for paid users. Cons: no Thai, a renewal price higher than the first year, monthly billing only through the app stores, and the depth limits that come with any 15-minute summary.
Is there something better than Blinkist?
It depends on the job. Shortform goes deeper on one book, Headway adds habit tools, and BookBits is built for listening in English or Thai at a baht price. The decision table under “Is Blinkist worth it?” sets it out.
Which is better, Blinkist or Imprint?
They do different things. Imprint teaches through visual lessons and says you can “complete a chapter in two minutes or less”. It is English only, and its offer page lists USD 74.99 a year, or USD 52.49 for the first year. Blinkist offers read-or-listen summaries in four languages. Pick Imprint if you learn best from visuals, Blinkist if you want text and audio.
What is the Blinkist 5 second rule?
People who search for it usually mean Mel Robbins’ book The 5 Second Rule, not a Blinkist feature. Its idea is a five-second countdown that moves you from intention to action before doubt takes over. You can hear a free preview of our summary of The 5 Second Rule.
Try BookBits before you choose
Before you pay Blinkist’s yearly price, hear a few BookBits previews on the books you care about; they are free and need no account. Full listening requires the iOS or Android app. See the plans on our Pricing page.
