Patrik Svensson was born in 1972 and is a Swedish journalist who writes about arts and culture for the newspaper Sydsvenskan. As a boy, he learned to fish for eel from his father, beside a stream in Sweden. The Book of Eels, published in Swedish as Ålevangeliet in 2019, was his first book. It combines a non-fiction look at the eel and its cultural history with a personal story about Svensson and his father. Publishing rights to the book were bought for 33 other languages in 2019, and it won the August Prize for Swedish Non-Fiction Book of the Year.
