About Alexander Elder
Alexander Elder, MD, was born in Leningrad and brought up in Estonia, where he started medical school at 16. He was 23 and serving as a ship's doctor when he left a Soviet ship in Africa, and the United States granted him political asylum. Elder practised psychiatry in New York City and also taught at Columbia University. That background gave him a particular view of the psychology of trading. Elder started Traders' Camps, which are week-long classes for traders, and he still trades. His books include The New Trading for a Living, Come into My Trading Room (named Barron's 2002 Book of the Year) and Sell & Sell Short.
