About Dan Savage

Dan Savage was born in Chicago and studied acting at the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign. He later moved to Seattle to write an advice column for The Stranger, the weekly newspaper there, and he is also its editorial director. That column, Savage Love, runs in newspapers and on websites across the US, Canada, Europe and Asia, and it has a podcast version, the Savage Lovecast. In 2010, Savage and his husband, Terry Miller, posted a YouTube video aimed at encouraging young LGBTQ people who were being bullied. It grew into the It Gets Better Project, and the two co-edited a book of the same name. In 2012 the project received a Governors Award Emmy. His books include American Savage, The Kid and The Commitment. The Kid won a PEN West Award for Creative Nonfiction. He lives in Seattle with his husband and their son.
