About Disney Institute

Disney Institute serves as The Walt Disney Company's external training and professional development unit. It runs seminars, workshops and presentations about the business side of Disney, for people in fields such as healthcare, aviation, professional sports, government, food and beverage, and retail. Disney Institute was formerly a resort and learning center, which Michael Eisner opened in February 1996. It drew partly on the Chautauqua Institution in New York, and was meant to offer a vacation built around learning by doing and personal growth, unlike the more passive entertainment of the theme parks. Its main public campus closed in 2003. As the resort closed, its instructors collected their customer service courses into the book Be Our Guest.
