About Eckhart Tolle
Tolle was born Ulrich Leonard Tölle in Lünen, Germany, in 1948. In 1977, while working toward a doctorate at the University of Cambridge, he went through what he has described as a spiritual awakening and left his studies. He later began teaching and now lives in Vancouver. The Power of Now was published in 1997, and A New Earth followed in 2005. He has also written Stillness Speaks and the picture book Guardians of Being. He has taken ideas from Zen Buddhism, Christian mysticism, Sufism and Hinduism, but belongs to no particular religion.
