About Elaine Fox

Elaine Fox is a psychologist and neuroscientist originally from Dublin. She has worked in Ireland, New Zealand and the UK, and her most recent UK post was at Oxford, where she was a professor of psychology and affective neuroscience. In 2022 she took charge of the School of Psychology at Australia's University of Adelaide. From 2013 to 2019 she held a European Research Council Advanced Investigator fellowship, which funded a large Oxford study of why some people are emotionally vulnerable to anxiety, depression and addictions while others are resilient. Her first commercial book, Rainy Brain, Sunny Brain, appeared in 2012 and explores why some people are optimistic and resilient while others lean towards pessimism. It has been translated into more than 20 languages. Switch Craft is her later book, an accessible introduction to the science of mental flexibility.
