Harvey Karp was born in New York City in 1951. He is a pediatrician, author and child development specialist, and a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. He worked with patients in Los Angeles for years before his books brought him wider recognition. His best-known book is The Happiest Baby on the Block, which comes with a DVD and sets out his "5 S's" approach to infant care. He also wrote Happiest Toddler on the Block, and his books have been translated into more than 20 languages. Karp founded the company Happiest Baby and created the Snoo, a smart bassinet.
