About James Fulcher
Fulcher has been a fellow at the University of Leicester, where he has taught sociology. His work compares how societies develop. He first examined how employers, unions and the state related to one another in Britain and Sweden from the nineteenth century onwards, then turned to Japanese society and the question of how Japan became a military and later an economic superpower. These interests fed into a wider concern with capitalism, including its stages of development, globalization and differing institutional forms. Together with John Scott, he has also written several editions of an Oxford University Press sociology textbook.
