About Jon Gertner
Jon Gertner is a longtime contributor to the New York Times Magazine. His writing has also appeared in Wired, The Washington Post and The Wall Street Journal. His magazine stories deal with current issues in science, technology and business, while his books return to historical episodes. His first book, The Idea Factory, was published by Penguin Press in 2012 and follows a generation of scientists at Bell Labs. He grew up in Berkeley Heights, New Jersey, near the Bell Labs site. He also wrote The Ice at the End of the World (2019), about 150 years of exploration on the Greenland ice sheet. He is now working on a book about NASA's Voyager mission.
