About Kate Raworth

Kate Raworth is an English economist, born in 1970, who describes herself as a renegade in her profession. Her work explores how economic thinking needs to change to meet the social and environmental problems of this century. She developed the Doughnut, a framework that sets social boundaries alongside planetary ones. Her career began with work alongside micro-entrepreneurs in villages in Zanzibar. She later co-authored the Human Development Report for the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in New York, then spent a decade as a Senior Researcher at Oxfam. She is associated with the University of Oxford's Environmental Change Institute and has also held a Professor of Practice post at Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences. Raworth has spoken about her ideas to groups as different as the UN General Assembly and the Occupy movement. Her book Doughnut Economics was published in the UK and US in April 2017.
