About Mark Beeman

Mark Beeman, PhD, is a professor of psychology and neurosciences at Northwestern University. For much of his career he has studied creativity and the sudden flashes of understanding often called aha moments. He has long worked with John Kounios, a psychology professor at Drexel University. In 2004 the two reported that insight arises in a region of the brain's right hemisphere, just above the right ear. Their brain-imaging work on insight has kept drawing attention in the years since. Beeman and Kounios wrote The Eureka Factor together.
