About Martin Ford
Martin Ford's 2015 book Rise of the Robots: Technology and the Threat of a Jobless Future made the New York Times bestseller list. It also took the Business Book of the Year prize from the Financial Times and McKinsey. His first book, The Lights in the Tunnel, appeared in 2009 and looked at automation and the risk of structural unemployment. Architects of Intelligence (2018) is built from conversations with leading AI researchers and entrepreneurs, among them Demis Hassabis, Geoffrey Hinton and Fei-Fei Li. The interviews explore where AI is heading, how human-level AI might be reached, and what risks come with progress. His later book, Rule of the Robots (2021), argues that AI will have a broad impact on the economy and society. Ford founded a software development firm in Silicon Valley. He studied computer engineering at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and went on to graduate study in business at UCLA's Anderson School of Management. He has given a talk on the main stage at the 2017 TED Conference.
