About Nick Bostrom

Nick Bostrom was born in Helsingborg, Sweden, in 1973. His best-known work deals with existential risk, the anthropic principle, the ethics of human enhancement, the simulation argument and the reversal test. At Oxford he was the founding director of the Future of Humanity Institute, which has since closed. He is now Principal Researcher at the Macrostrategy Research Initiative. He studied philosophy, physics, artificial intelligence and computational neuroscience, and the London School of Economics awarded him a doctorate in philosophy in 2000. Superintelligence, published in 2014, looks at how advances in artificial intelligence could lead to minds far beyond human ability. Bostrom sees this as a source of both opportunity and existential risk. He has also written Anthropic Bias and Deep Utopia.
