About Paul McCartney

Paul McCartney was born in Liverpool on 18 June 1942. He taught himself piano, guitar and songwriting as a teenager, and wrote his first song at 14. In 1957 he joined John Lennon's group the Quarrymen, which became The Beatles in 1960. In The Beatles he played bass and keyboards, and he shared the main songwriting and lead vocals with Lennon. After the band broke up, he released the album McCartney in 1970 and formed Wings with his first wife, Linda, and Denny Laine. He has toured as a solo artist since 1989. Beyond music, he has supported charitable causes, including animal rights, campaigns against land mines and music education. His book in our catalog is The Beatles Anthology.
