About Rick Warren
Richard Duane Warren was born in San Jose, California, in 1954 and grew up in Ukiah. He studied at California Baptist University and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and later earned a Doctor of Ministry from Fuller Theological Seminary. Warren started Saddleback Church in Orange County in 1980, beginning with a small Bible study group. It is now a Baptist megachurch in Lake Forest, California. He developed the Purpose Driven approach to ministry, which rests on five purposes: worship, fellowship, discipleship, ministry and evangelism. His book The Purpose Driven Church appeared in 1995. The Purpose Driven Life followed later and has sold more than 30 million copies. Warren has given talks at TED, the UN and the World Economic Forum, and is involved in the P.E.A.C.E. Plan, a humanitarian initiative for churches.
