About Robin Dunbar

Early in his career, Robin Dunbar researched how wild monkeys and antelope in Africa relate to one another. His research has focused on the behavioral ecology of hoofed animals and of human and nonhuman primates, and on the mental processes behind the choices animals make. He is perhaps best known for the social brain hypothesis, also called Dunbar's number. It suggests that humans can only maintain a limited number of social relationships at any one time. Dunbar co-wrote The Social Brain with Sam Rockey.
