About Daryl Collins
Daryl Collins is an economist and Managing Director at Bankable Frontier Associates. She co-wrote Portfolios of the Poor. Her work links what we know about how low income households manage their finances with the business case for offering them financial services. She has wide experience running financial diaries, including in Kenya, India, Mexico and South Africa, and she supervised the Consultative Group to Assist the Poor (CGAP) Smallholder Diaries project. Collins started her career as an economist covering emerging markets for an investment bank in New York, then moved to South Africa in the late 1990s. She later joined the finance faculty of the University of Cape Town, where she turned her portfolio management career toward research on the financial behavior of the poor. Her degrees are a B.Sc. and an M.Sc. in economics from the London School of Economics, plus a Ph.D. from New York University.
