About David Christian
David Christian is a historian who first specialized in Russian history. He earned his doctorate in 19th century Russian history at Oxford University in 1974. In 1989 he began teaching a course that follows history from the Big Bang to the present, with help from scholars in the sciences, social sciences and humanities. He is credited with coining the name Big History, and he is president of the International Big History Association. He is a professor of history at Macquarie University. Together with Bill Gates, he co-founded the Big History Project, which works to take the course to high school students around the world. His book Origin Story offers a big history of everything.
