About Frantz Fanon
Frantz Fanon was born in Martinique and died in December 1961. He worked as a physician and psychiatrist, and he contributed to post-colonial studies and critical theory. He supported Algeria's war of independence from France and joined the Algerian National Liberation Front. He also helped found institutional psychotherapy while working at Saint-Alban. Fanon proposed a community-based approach to mental health. He believed many patients would do better when kept within their family and community rather than in institutional care. BookBits summarizes his book The Wretched of the Earth.
