About Gerd Gigerenzer

Gerd Gigerenzer was born in 1947 in Wallersdorf, Germany. In Berlin, he led the Center for Adaptive Behavior and Cognition, part of the Max Planck Institute for Human Development. His research covers bounded rationality and heuristics, which are simple rules of thumb, and how people use them to reason in an uncertain world. He argues that heuristics are not simply irrational, and he has described situations where using less information leads to more accurate decisions. He has also challenged the views of Daniel Kahneman and Amos Tversky on irrational cognitive biases. He has written several books on decision making, including Reckoning with Risk, Gut Feelings and Risk Savvy.
