About Howard Gardner
Howard Gardner, born in 1943, is an American developmental psychologist and a research professor of cognition and education at Harvard University. He helped found Harvard Project Zero in 1967 and took on leadership positions there between 1972 and 2023. He set out his theory of multiple intelligences in the 1983 book Frames of Mind. The theory questions the idea that human intelligence is a single thing that standard tests can measure. He has written more than thirty books and hundreds of research articles, and he received a MacArthur Fellowship in 1981. Since 1995 he has co-directed The Good Project, which examines work that is excellent, engaging and ethical. He stopped teaching in 2019 and published his intellectual memoir A Synthesizing Mind in 2020.
