About Jill Bolte Taylor

Jill Bolte Taylor is a neuroanatomist from the United States who also writes and speaks publicly. She began studying severe mental illness because of her brother's psychosis, and she held a postdoctoral fellowship at Harvard Medical School during the early 1990s. In December 1996 she had a massive stroke, and her eight-year recovery shaped her later work as a scientist and speaker. She tells that story in My Stroke of Insight, published in 2008. Her TED talk was the first to go viral online, and the book then became a New York Times bestseller. In 2008 Time magazine included her among its 100 most influential people of the year. She founded the nonprofit Jill Bolte Taylor Brains, Inc., works as an adjunct lecturer at the Indiana University School of Medicine, and is national spokesperson for the Harvard Brain Tissue Resource Center. In 2021 she published a second book, Whole Brain Living.
