About John Tierney

Tierney joined the New York Times in 1990 and worked there as a reporter and columnist, including as a science columnist. He is a contributing editor to City Journal and has reported from all seven continents. He describes himself as a contrarian, and his writing has been critical of aspects of environmentalism and big government. With Roy Baumeister he wrote The Power of Bad, which is about the negativity effect, and the earlier New York Times best-seller Willpower. He also wrote the humor book The Best-Case Scenario Handbook, and co-wrote with Christopher Buckley the novel God Is My Broker, a parody of self-help books.
