Pitts comes from Firth Park in Sheffield, and works as a writer, photographer and broadcaster. He has also worked as a journalist. His online journal Afropean covers art, literature and events from the Afro-European diaspora. It has grown into a network for Black Europeans across the continent. His book Afropean carries the same name. Before the book, he worked with the author Caryl Phillips on a photo essay for the BBC about London's immigrant communities.
