About Kathryn Mannix

Kathryn Mannix began her medical career in cancer care, then moved into palliative medicine, which she has practised since 1986. She has worked in hospices, hospitals and people's own homes, helping patients keep the best quality of life as death approaches. She qualified as a cognitive behavior therapist in 1993 and went on to start a UK clinic offering cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) only to palliative care patients. She also devised a training course, CBT First Aid, so that colleagues could add new skills to their work with patients. Mannix has worked with many thousands of dying people. She believes that if the public understood more about what happens as we die, people would be less afraid and could talk more openly with those closest to them about their hopes and plans.
