About Lisa Kaltenegger

Lisa Kaltenegger is an Austrian astronomer who models habitable exoplanets and the light signatures that could reveal life on them. She became Associate Professor of Astronomy at Cornell University in 2014, after earlier positions at the Max Planck Institute for Astronomy in Heidelberg and at Harvard. At Cornell she founded the Carl Sagan Institute and leads it. She has worked with NASA and the European Space Agency (ESA). Smithsonian Magazine named her one of America's Young Innovators, and she appears in the IMAX 3D film The Search for Life in Space. In Alien Earths, she explores unusual exoplanets and connects what we know of Earth's history to the question of life on other worlds. She lives with her family in upstate New York.
