About Malala Yousafzai
Malala Yousafzai was born in 1997 in Mingora, in Pakistan's Swat district. As a child she wrote a blog for the BBC Urdu about life under Taliban occupation, and she spoke up for girls' right to go to school. In October 2012 a Taliban gunman shot her on a bus after an exam. She was treated in Birmingham in the UK, where she later settled. Once she had recovered, she set up the non-profit Malala Fund together with Shiza Shahid. In 2013 she co-wrote the international best seller I Am Malala. In 2014 she shared the Nobel Peace Prize with Kailash Satyarthi. She was 17, which made her the youngest Nobel laureate in history. She studied Philosophy, Politics and Economics at Oxford and graduated in 2020. Her books in our catalog include I Am Malala and We Are Displaced.
