Spitznagel is a hedge fund manager and the founder of Universa Investments, a firm based in Miami, Florida. He is known as a pioneer of tail-hedging, sometimes called black swan investing, a strategy meant to protect against stock market crashes. Earlier in his career he worked as an independent pit trader at the Chicago Board of Trade and later headed proprietary trading at Morgan Stanley.
