About Patanjali
Patanjali is the name of one or more authors, mystics and philosophers of ancient India. The name is recorded as compiler of several Sanskrit works, and the best known is the Yoga Sutras, a classical text on yoga. The Yoga Sutras are a collection of aphorisms on yoga practice. They cover meditation, ethics and the philosophy behind Raja Yoga, and in recent decades they have become popular around the world. The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali is the version in our catalog. Scholars still debate who Patanjali was. A grammar text called the Mahābhāṣya carries the same name, but it differs greatly from the Yoga Sutras in subject and language. Most Western scholars now think different authors wrote the works.
