About Sarah Anderson
Sarah Anderson studied Chinese, then earned an MA in the psychology of religion at Heythrop. She has taught travel writing at City University, writes travel pieces and book reviews, and has given talks around the world. Her paintings have been exhibited in London. In The Lost Art of Silence, she looks at the cultural, spiritual and social history of silence, and at why some people find quiet uncomfortable. Her own journeys inform the book, including a trip to Antarctica, a stay at a Spanish retreat where meditation is practised in silence, and a visit to Lake Baikal in Siberia. She wrote much of it during the Covid-19 lockdown.
