About Suetonius

Gaius Suetonius Tranquillus, known as Suetonius, was a Roman historian who belonged to the equestrian order. He also served the imperial court under the emperors Trajan and Hadrian. His best-known surviving work, The Twelve Caesars, gives the lives of twelve Roman rulers in order, from Julius Caesar to Domitian. He also wrote about daily life in Rome, politics, oratory and the lives of famous writers, such as poets, historians and grammarians. Only parts of a few of these works survive, and many are lost.
