About Swami Satchidananda

Swami Satchidananda was a Yoga master and numbered among the earliest to teach the classical tradition in Western countries. Pop artist Peter Max invited him to America in 1966. In 1969 Satchidananda opened the Woodstock Festival, which earned him the nickname "the Woodstock Guru." His teachings combine six branches of classical Yoga, the Vedanta philosophy of nonduality, and interfaith ideals he helped pioneer. Integral Yoga International and Satchidananda Ashram–Yogaville were founded on his teachings, and both are centers for Yoga teacher certification. He wrote many books on Yoga, among them The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. The documentary Living Yoga: The Life and Teachings of Swami Satchidananda is about his life and work.
