About Thomas J. Stanley

Born in the Bronx in 1944, Stanley earned a doctorate in business administration at the University of Georgia. He went on to teach marketing at several universities, including Georgia State University in the Atlanta area. He was also the lead adviser at Data Points, a firm built on his research and data. He began studying the affluent in 1973 and spent most of his career examining how financially successful Americans in many professions built their wealth on their own. The Millionaire Next Door appeared in 1996, and more than 4 million copies have been sold. He followed it with The Millionaire Mind in 2000, which also reached the New York Times bestseller list. Stanley died in 2015 while working on a book with his daughter, Sarah Stanley Fallaw, an industrial psychologist. She finished The Next Millionaire Next Door, which was published in October 2018 with both of them credited as authors.
