About Thomas More
Thomas More was an English lawyer, judge, social philosopher and theologian. He served Henry VIII as Lord Chancellor from 1529 to 1532. His book Utopia came out in 1516 and imagines how an invented island country is governed. More opposed the Protestant Reformation and wrote against the theology of Martin Luther and William Tyndale. He also refused to accept Henry as head of the Church of England, and he was convicted of treason and executed in 1535. The Catholic Church canonised him as a martyr in 1935.
