About Thucydides
Thucydides lived from about 460 to 400 BCE and served as an Athenian general. He was exiled from Athens in 424 BCE after failing to prevent the capture of an important city. His History of the Peloponnesian War follows the war between Sparta and Athens up to 411 BCE. He died before finishing it. Some call him the father of scientific history, and others consider him a founder of political realism. His work is still read at universities and military colleges around the world, and the Melian dialogue is seen as an important text in international relations theory.
