About Victoria Finlay

Victoria Finlay studied social anthropology at St Andrews University in Scotland and at William & Mary College in Virginia. She later spent 12 years in Hong Kong, working as a news reporter and then as arts editor at The South China Morning Post. She left that job to write about where colors come from, a curiosity that began at age eight, when she learned that the blue glass of Chartres Cathedral could no longer be made the old way. The result was published in 2002 as Colour: Travels Through The Paint Box in the UK and as Color: The Natural History of the Palette in the US. She has since written Jewels: A Secret History, The Brilliant History of Color in Art and Fabric: the Hidden History of the Material World.
