About Adam Rutherford
Rutherford studied genetics at University College London, where his PhD research looked at the developing eye. He was on the team that traced one type of blindness in children to a genetic cause for the first time. He later spent a decade as an audio-visual content editor at the journal Nature, and he writes often for The Guardian. He has presented BBC Radio 4's Inside Science, and also The Curious Cases of Rutherford and Fry alongside Hannah Fry. On television he has written and presented documentaries, including The Cell and The Gene Code. He has also worked as a scientific consultant on films such as Ex Machina and Annihilation. His books include A Brief History of Everyone Who Ever Lived and The Book of Humans. His first book, Creation, was shortlisted for the Wellcome Trust Prize. In June 2022 he became President of Humanists UK, taking over from Alice Roberts.
