About Brian Wansink

Brian Wansink was born in 1960 and worked in consumer behavior and marketing research. He held an endowed chair at Cornell University and directed its Cornell Food and Brand Lab. From 2007 to 2009 he was executive director of the US Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Center for Nutrition Policy and Promotion. His lab looked at how people make food choices and how those choices might be improved. His book Mindless Eating: Why We Eat More Than We Think helped popularize the phrase "mindless eating". Concerns about his papers and presentations drew wider attention from 2017. In 2018 Cornell found that he had committed scientific misconduct, and he resigned effective June 2019. Several of his research papers have been retracted.
