About Diana Winston

Diana Winston directs UCLA Mindful and was formerly a Buddhist nun. Her other books include The Little Book of Being and Glimpses of Being, plus a guide for teens titled Wide Awake. With Dr. Susan L. Smalley, she wrote Fully Present: The Science, Art, and Practice of Mindfulness. The book explains how mindfulness affects the brain and body, and offers practical guidance for practising it in daily life, from meditation to everyday moments such as waiting in line or facing difficult news. Smalley held a Ph.D. in anthropology and was a professor in psychiatry, so the two authors brought quite different backgrounds to the book. A second edition came out in December 2022 with a new afterword.
