About Henry M. Paulson

Henry M. Paulson Jr., known as Hank, was born in 1946. He studied English at Dartmouth College, where he played football, and earned an MBA from Harvard in 1970. He then worked at the Pentagon and in the Nixon White House before joining Goldman Sachs in 1974. At Goldman Sachs he rose to become chairman and chief executive. In 2006 President George W. Bush nominated him as Secretary of the Treasury, and he served until January 2009. His memoir On the Brink is an insider account of the race to prevent the global financial system from collapsing. Paulson founded the Paulson Institute in 2011 and chairs it. The institute promotes sustainable economic growth and a cleaner environment worldwide, starting with work on the US and China. His book Dealing with China draws on his years of experience working with that country, first at Goldman Sachs and later at the Treasury.
