About Kristin Neff
Kristin Neff is an associate professor at the University of Texas at Austin. She completed her PhD at the University of California, Berkeley in 1997, studying moral development. Towards the end of her doctoral studies, Buddhism caught her interest, and she has meditated in the Insight tradition ever since. During her postdoctoral work she chose to study self-compassion, an idea central to Buddhist psychology that had not yet been examined empirically. She carried out some of the first empirical studies of it, and she has written many academic articles and book chapters on the subject. With her colleague Chris Germer, she developed the Mindful Self-Compassion training program, which runs for eight weeks. The two also co-founded the nonprofit Center for Mindful Self-Compassion and co-wrote the Mindful Self-Compassion Workbook. Her own books include Self-Compassion and Fierce Self-Compassion.
