About Robert J. Shiller
Robert J. Shiller was born in Detroit, Michigan, in 1946 and became an American economist, academic and author. He has been a Sterling Professor of Economics at Yale University and a fellow at the International Center for Finance at the Yale School of Management. He also co-founded the investment management firm MacroMarkets LLC and served as its chief economist. Together with Karl Case, Shiller helped create the Case–Shiller housing price index, and he also helped develop the cyclically adjusted price-to-earnings ratio. He questioned the Efficient Market Hypothesis and gave early warning of the stock and housing bubbles that led to the subprime mortgage crisis. In 2013 he shared the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences with Eugene Fama and Lars Peter Hansen, honoring their empirical work on asset prices. He wrote the New York Times best-seller Irrational Exuberance. His books in our catalog include Narrative Economics and Phishing for Phools.
