About Tarana Burke
A native of the Bronx, Burke founded the Me Too movement, which grew out of her work with survivors of sexual violence, particularly Black girls and women. She began community organizing in the late 1980s through a youth leadership group, and later attended Alabama State University. In 2017 the #MeToo hashtag went viral, and Time included Burke among the "silence breakers" it named Person of the Year. In 2018 she founded me too. International, a non-profit organization tied to the movement. You Are Your Best Thing is her book in our catalog.
