Since 1992 his research has looked at the genetic basis of common diseases, and he has published more than 600 research articles. He has argued against low-fat and fad diets. He favours a plant-rich Mediterranean-style diet with plenty of fiber, a variety of plants and fermented foods, and few ultra-processed foods. Spoon-Fed is one of several books he has written for general readers.
