About William Bridges

Bridges taught American Literature at Mills College in Oakland, California, until a career change in 1974. He had studied the humanities at Harvard, Columbia and Brown universities, and he once served as president of the Association for Humanistic Psychology. He focused on the psychological reorientation people go through to come to terms with change, which he called Transition. In 1988 he started professional seminars, and over 5,000 people, including managers, trainers and consultants, have since qualified through them to lead Transition Management programs. His later work brought these ideas to the non-profit world. His books include Transitions and Managing Transitions, which together have sold over one million copies. He also wrote The Way of Transition, Creating You & Co. and Jobshift.
