About Daniel Lieberman
Daniel E. Lieberman is the Edwin M. Lerner II Professor of Biological Sciences at Harvard University, where he works in the Department of Human Evolutionary Biology. He joined Harvard as a professor in 2001, after teaching at Rutgers University and George Washington University. He studied at Harvard and Cambridge, and he is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He is best known for research on running, the human head and the human body. A 2004 paper he wrote with Dennis Bramble proposed that humans evolved to run long distances. He is a keen marathon runner and often runs barefoot. His books include Exercised and The Story of the Human Body, both published by Pantheon. In Exercised, he asks why exercise, which humans never evolved to do, is healthy and rewarding.
