About Peter Drucker
Peter Drucker (1909 to 2005) was born near Vienna. After school he went to Germany, worked in banking and then journalism, and earned a doctorate in international law. He left Germany in 1933, spent four years in London, and settled permanently in the United States in 1937. In the US he taught management at New York University from 1950 to 1971. He then held a professorship in social science and management at Claremont Graduate University until his death. His first book, The End of Economic Man, appeared in 1939. Drucker coined the term "knowledge worker" in 1959 and later came to see the productivity of such workers as management's next big challenge. He received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2002. His books in our catalog include The Effective Executive, Managing Oneself and Innovation and Entrepreneurship.
