About Dan Gardner

Gardner trained in law and history, and began his career as a policy advisor to the Premier of Ontario. He joined the Ottawa Citizen in 1997, where he reported on drugs, criminal justice and torture before becoming a national affairs columnist. He left the paper in 2014, and his reporting there earned wins or nominations for leading Canadian journalism awards. In January 2015 he became editor of Policy Options, a Canadian public policy magazine. A 2005 lecture by psychologist Paul Slovic drew him into the scientific research on how people judge danger, and that led to his book Risk. Superforecasting, written with Wharton psychologist Philip Tetlock, examines Tetlock's research on forecasting. Gardner also lectures on forecasting, risk and decision-making.
